Best Tourism Business

Chamber of Commerce
recognizes this area's best
In their six-year history, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards have elicited a myriad of emotions from recipients. There have been tears of joy, outright shock and sincere thank-yous to supportive spouses, which have all tugged at the heartstrings of those in the audience.

The 2009 ceremony was different from previous shows. The awards program was altered to offer voters fewer categories with broader scope to choose from. More than 110 nominations were forwarded to the judging committee for consideration. In addition to the community organization award, trophies were presented in six other categories during the course of the night.

“It has been a tough go and to be recognized for something with this number of nominees is amazing,” he said.
Rich Swift of Algonquin Outfitters was on hand to pick up his company’s second excellence award when he accepted the 2009 Tourism Business of the Year trophy. The business had previously won the Company of the Year honor for 30+ employees back in 2007.

Swift said the tourism award has special meaning to him. “This award is what we are, what Algonquin Outfitters is and what we have done and what we truly represent. We really go to great strides to promote our community and business on the international and domestic markets. We go to a number of trade shows... to bring people, not only on canoe trips or bike trips but to come to Muskoka and enjoy the hotels and the restaurants.”
